Teeth Whitening

Question:

Hi there, just a quick question. I have had my teeth whitened a few years ago and I have some optident carbamide peroxide gel left over, its more viscous than I remember and it has not been refrigerated. My question is this – am I running any risk in trying this gel again? I fancy having them whitened a little more and if I can try this old gel with no problem it saves me buying more. Thanks a lot =]

Answer:

Over time the whitening solution degrades. Keeping it in the refrigerator slows this process but if it is a few years old whether it was refrigerator stored or not the material is not likely to be effective anymore. It shouldn’t hurt you to try it but it will probably not cause a noticeable difference in your tooth color. I would recommend that if you want your teeth whiter you start with a professional cleaning and then purchase new whitening solution.

Hope this is helpful
