How long should you wait before getting dentures after having teeth pulled?

QUESTION:

How long should I wait before getting dentures after having my teeth pulled?

ANSWER:

Typically you will want to wait a minimum of 6 weeks between your extractions and your dentures. You may also opt for an immediate denture where they place a denture at the time of extractions. Either way you will probably need to have your denture relined or rebased after you have had it for 6 to 12 months as the underlying bone will change shape over that time. Additionally you will need to have the denture checked every year or two after that as your jaw bone will continue to shrink over time which will affect the fit of your denture. Dental implants are a good way to help stabilize your denture and reduce the bone loss associated with wearing dentures.
