Short for prepare or preparation. It is the process of the dentist cutting down the tooth to make it ready to hold a filling or a prosthetic crown. It is also used to describe the finished product of this process. Ex.: The dentist takes an impression of the final tooth prep in order to create a model that the lab can use to design the final prosthetic crown.
