Vein
Any blood vessel which brings deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
Veneer
A laminate made out of porcelain or other tooth colored materials that is applied or bonded to the tooth in order to improve the shape, color, position or overall appearance of a tooth or teeth.
Whitening
Also called bleaching. It is the application of chemicals to the enamel of a tooth in order to make it whiter. This may be done in office, at home using professionally designed trays and prescription bleaching agents, or at home with over the counter products.
Wilkodontics
A trademarked term for periodontally assisted osteogenic orthodontics. It was coined by the Wilko brothers who popularized this technique for speeding up the orthodontic movement of teeth.
Wisdom Tooth/Teeth
The third molars they usually erupt into the mouth in the late teens if there is space. Often they are removed due to a lack of room for them in the mouth or to prevent future problems.
Wound
Any break in the continuity of a tissue.
X-Rays
Radiographic images of the teeth and jaws used by dental professionals to diagnose and treat oral conditions.
Xenograft
Graft tissue which is derived from a different species. Cow derived collagen which is transplanted into a person is a xenograft.
Xenoplast
Truly synthetic graft material. Bioactive glass, hydorxyappetite and tri-calcium phosphate are examples of xenoplast material.
