The area on the tooth from where the gum is located on the tooth to the junction of the bone and the tooth. This distance is about three millimeters on average and is the body’s protective zone between the oral cavity and the bone. It cannot be violated or impinged upon with fillings or crown margins without creating inflammation and tissue death.
