Brushing Young Childrens Teeth

Question:

Is there an easy way to get my 2yr old to brush his teeth?  Its a daily fight and now I noticed the gums in the front are inflamed and bleeds when I brush his teeth. Can’t get the brush/wash cloth far enough in his mouth to brush/wipe his tongue properly (stinky breath) any solutions?

Answer:

In response to how to brush your two year olds teeth. There is no magic solution you just have to do it. It may take two people one to hold your child still and one to quickly brush with a small soft child or infant brush and some kids tooth paste. Suggestions are to let child pick out a character toothbrush and paste that they like. They will eventually learn that it is easier not to fight you on the brushing and  it will get easier to brush for them.  The bleeding should decrease as the teeth are cleaned more effectively. They probably will not have the dexterity to properly brush for themselves until they are 5 or 6 years old so you need to start a routine of doing it for them at night before they go to bed and try not to give them anything to eat or drink except water after brushing at night.
I would also recommend you contact Dr. Jason Hirsch at 954-581-7883. He is an excellent childrens dentist in Plantation and it would be a good idea for your child to have a check up and start getting conditioned to seeing the dentist and realize that he is not going to hurt them. This will make future dental visits much easier.

Hope this helps
