The part of the body which is located in the mouth and is used for biting, tearing and chewing of our food. Teeth protrude through the jawbone and gum into the mouth. Teeth consist of a pulp, a root, and a crown. The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth, it is surrounded by dentin. The dentin is surrounded by cementum along the root surface of the tooth and is surrounded by enamel over the crown of the tooth. The tooth is connected to the jaw bone by a ligament called the periodontal ligament. This ligament stretches from the bone surface and inserts in the cementum layer of the tooth.
